The Southern Maryland Studies Center’s Oral History Project captured the everyday experiences of families and communities in Southern Maryland during the 20th century. These interviews were conducted during the 1970s to the late 1990s. Major topics include agriculture, education, watermen, politics, African-American history, slot machines, and towns.
PIP & ZASTROW: AN AMERICAN FRIENDSHIP

The project examines the 50-year friendship between two men – Pip Meyer, a white, former mayor of Annapolis, MD and Zastrow Simms, a black, former felon and community activist. It is a friendship that crosses many racial political boundaries and paralleled the civil rights political changes in Annapolis and the U.S.
