The 2024 OHMAR annual conference, “What’s Next? Facilitating Public Engagement with Oral Histories,” will highlight examples of and strategies for how to facilitate audience engagement with oral histories. The conference program will include a keynote talk by Samir Meghelli, Senior Curator at the Smithsonian Institution‘s Anacostia Community Museum in Washington, DC, 6 panels, our annual Pogue Award presentations, our 2022 and 2023 Martha Ross Prize presentation, OHMAR business meeting and annual elections, a networking event, and a workshop.

Conference Workshop: Storifying Oral History Through Podcasting: A Practical Skills Workshop

Friday, April 19, 2:30-4:00 pm

Storifying Oral History Through Podcasting: A Practical Skills Workshop provides tips for creating and producing podcasts centered around oral history. Katherine Barbera and David Bernabo from Bright Archives, an independent archival production house, will cover equipment recommendations, audio editing and engineering, sourcing music, and scripting. The workshop will review the pros and cons of oral history podcasting and provide examples from podcasts such as Why We Collect and Cut Pathways. Attendees will walk away with practical knowledge and a roadmap for starting their own podcasts.

Non-Students: $40* with institutional support, $20* without institutional support
Workshop Add-On: $10 general, $5 student

All fees help cover operational costs and our Martha Ross Prize, awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate student creating original work in oral history. None of our Board members receive any compensation for their work with OHMAR.
