INTREPID MUSEUM ORAL HISTORY PROJECT

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum launched an oral history project in May 2013, with the goal of collecting the stories of those who served on board the historic aircraft carrier Intrepid from 1943 to 1974. The Museum also collects oral histories from people associated with the Museum’s other major artifacts: the submarine Growler, the space shuttle orbiter Enterprise and the supersonic airliner Concorde. The oral histories are a core component of the Museum’s collections and are actively used in exhibitions, educational programming and public tours.

A one-year interdisciplinary MA degree training students in oral history method and theory. Through the creation, archiving and analysis of individual, community and institutional histories, they amplify the critical first-person narratives that constitute memory for generations to come. OHMA is jointly run by the Columbia Center for Oral History Research and INCITE. They offer oral history workshops and lectures year-round.
BROOKLYN COLLEGE VIETNAM ORAL HISTORY PROJECT

This oral history project aims to supplement the “official” record of events with the memories of the little guy, the person who did not necessarily make the big decisions, but was affected by them anyway, and saw the influence of the War on New York City.
